Jamil was born in Baku in 2005 under the birth name of Jamil Salahli. Jamil was brought up by his adopted British father and subsequently changed his name to Jamlil Hasanli Rogers, paying homage to his Azerbaijani heritage and love for his father. He is now racing under his new name.
Jamil is the great-grandson of two famous Azerbaijanis:
Great Grandmother: Gasimova Shafiga (National artist and actress of Azerbaijan Republic)
Great Grandfather: Hasanov Ashraf (national artist of Azerbaijan Republic and first conductor to graduate and work under Uzeir Hajibeyov)
At the age of 3 Jamil and his family moved to Lagos. Nigeria. He attended the American International School in Lagos and moved to the UK at the age of 8 where he started his racing career.
After competing in corporate karting for 4 years at various racing circuits in the UK, Jamil was noticed by a small local racing team and was invited to try out. He has since joined Coles racing team and currently competes in three championships:British Championship, Superone Championship in the UK and BNL (Belgium championship).
For the past 18 months Jamil has been a member of the elite athlete development programme at Bath University and 4 times a week is training with the Olympic coaches for the British Toboggan team. The aim of the program is to develop Jamil from an early age to be a rounded athlete but with focus on the core areas needed for his sport
